Miss Representation
I went to watch the video “Miss Representation” written and produced by Jennifer Siebel Newson. This film was a documentary about how women are mistreated and misrepresented in today’s society through media, politics, and movies. This documentary is an example of Human Rights in a way that it shows how women are dehumanized and devalued in society. As the movie goes on, they show groups of people like student leadership groups, politicians and leaders of organizations that help promote equal rights for women.
Censorship can impact large groups in many ways. In the world we live in today, women are told that they must look flawless and stay quiet. The media downplays and bashes women in power based on their appearance. This not only criticizes what they’re wearing, but it also criticizes what they’re doing. After watching this film I think it can help promote women’s rights. Women need to be heard for more than just their clothing, they need to be heard through their words and actions.
